Though the speed with which the H1N1 virus is killing people in the city has slowed down a wee bit, it’s not over yet. An all-pervasive sense of panic continues to rule the city.
But there’s a brighter side to this: many organisations and individuals are pitching in to help the administration to tackle the pandemic.
The Pune Municipal Corporation and the district administration are trying to control the situation. Corporators like Dr Siddharth Dhende are also doing their bit.
Dr Dhende and a team of doctors of Yerwada Doctors Association (YDA) have been screening patients in PMC’s centres.
Dhende, an activist from the Republican Party of India, was elected from the Nagpur Chawl ward no 15.
He completed his MBBS and MD from B J Medical College with a specialisation in Physiology.
Dhende said, “Following a meeting with the district collector and PMC, YDA has decided to help them.
YDA has 250 members from Yerwada, Kalyaninagar, Vishrantwadi and Nagar Road. We have created a team of 10 doctors and organised them into three groups.
They are screening pa-tients in Galande Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and Siddharth Hospital. The doctors are also helping civic doctors to treat H1N1 patients.
Dr J B Taswala, president of YDA said, “Dr Manisha Gosavi, Dr Sunanda Agashe, Dr J M Talesara, Dr Avinash Dalal, Dr Sadik Khan, Dr Mahesh Waghmare, Dr Vaibhav Sonune, Dr Pradeep Sharma, Dr Avinash Dalal and Dr Subhash Lunkad have been screening patients at various centres.”
He added, “PMC’s doctors are working tirelessly and to understand this national calamity, we have to work together.”
